Lucas Gatto of Burnaby finished second at junior golf's first tournament of the season in the Okanagan.

Lucas Gatto of Burnaby finished second at junior golf's first tournament of the season in the Okanagan.

Gatto carded back-toback even-par 72s to finish one stroke shy of the boys' 14-to-16 division winner David Guterson of Calgary at the Maple Leaf Tour stop at the Harvest Golf Club in Kelowna on July 16.

Guterson blazed to the top in the opening round with a four-under-par 68, but managed to keep ahead of Gatto despite a threeover-par round on the final day.

Guterson went on to beat 17-year-old Jordan Hoodikoff in a six-hole playoff to win an exemption into the Texas Junior Golf Tour Holiday Classic in Austin, Texas.

Gatto, who placed 10th at the recent B.C. junior golf championships, won a closest-to-the-pin prize in his age group.

Next stop on the tour is the 54-hole Odlum Brown Classic at the Northview Golf Club in Cloverdale from July 25 to 27.
