Junior wheelchair tennis camp in Burnaby

Campers will also give a special send-off to Parapan Am Games athlete Joel Dembe

With the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games less than three weeks away, a B.C. Wheelchair Sports Association junior wheelchair tennis camp will host a Parapan Am Games sendoff for nominated athlete Joel Dembe.

Dembe will be on hand to inspire the junior wheelchair tennis athletes from across North America and talk to them about what it takes to compete at a high-performance level.
This is the first time that wheelchair sports has hosted a wheelchair tennis junior camp and it is a significant milestone for the development of wheelchair tennis in the country.

The camp will be held at the Burnaby Lake tennis courts, beginning on Wednesday, July 22 at 3890 Kensington Ave. in Burnaby.

The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the send-off for Dembe at noon.

Thomas Bourassa, who recently became the first athlete with a disability to play on a high school tennis team, and B.C. Wheelchair Sports Association program manager Holly Tawse will also be in attendance at the camp.
