Juniors jilted for ninth straight time

Burnaby Lakers keep New Westminster to under nine goals but manage just three in loss at Queen's Park

The junior A Burnaby Lakers held New Westminster to single figures but still managed to drop their ninth consecutive B.C. Junior Lacrosse League game.

The Lakers fell 8-3 to the Salmonbellies at Queen’s Park Arena on Tuesday.

Tyler Kirby tied the game 1-1 late in the first period. He also assisted on Jordan Lashar’s second of the season midway through the middle period that lifted the Lakers to within a goal of New West at 3-2.

But Carter Dickson sparked a 4-0 New Westminster third period with his hat-trick goal in the early going and backed that up with his fourth of the game six minutes later.

Earlier, Dickson tallied the game-winner on a second-period power play.

Graham Husick, a recent pickup from the Salmonbellies in a one-for-one trade for fellow goalie Steven Mayervich, was among the busiest of all the Lakers, kicking out 53 shots on goal for a sparkling 0.869 save percentage.

Tyler Landry made 26 saves in goal for the junior ’Bellies.

Next up for Burnaby are the 3-6-1 Port Coquitlam Saints at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Sunday. Game time is 7 p.m.
