The Burnaby independent’s only loss was to eventual champion Sutherland 13-5 in the semifinals.

The North Vancouver school went on to defeat a combined St. George’s/York House team in the championship final.

STM defeated Prince of Wales 12-3 in the consolation final to claim the third-place medal.

“Sutherland is a notch above the rest of the teams. Those guys are really good,” said STM coach Joe Muise. “Our team was definitely very happy to get the bronze medal.”

The Knights were seeded fifth going into the 16-team tournament and topped their pool with an unbeaten 3-0 record on Day 1 of the competition, including a 13-4 win over No. 4 seed Earl Haig from Ontario and an 11-4 victory over eighth-place finisher Point Grey.

On Day 2, STM also defeated fifth-place-finishing Westwood 12-5 to make it into the final four.

“In our last game versus Prince of Wales, they picked themselves up after a tough loss to Sutherland to pick up a medal,” Muise said.
