Two St. Thomas More Collegiate students battled it out in the final of the 58th Pacific Northwest junior boys' amateur golf championships earlier this month.

Kevin Vigna beat Lucas Gatto of Burnaby four-and two in the 36-hole match play final to win the title at the Port Ludlow Golf Club in Washington on Aug. 13.

Vigna held a slim one-stroke lead after the opening 18 holes on the par-72, 6,503-yard course. On the final day, the two traded birdies on the front nine, but birdies on the 10th and 13th holes gave Vigna an insurmountable lead.

"My goal was just to make the championship flight and just play well from then on," said Vigna in a B.C. Golf online press release. " It feels really good to go the whole way."
