Lady Rebels win second tournament

Manpreet Nijjar scored 26 points to lead the Burnaby South Rebels over host Steveston-London at the Bob Carkner memorial basketball tournament last weekend. Burnaby South defeated Steveston-London 64-52 in the girls' championship final.

South players Nijjar, Pavneet Brar and Amie Morrison were all named to the girls' all-star team following the Richmond tournament.

The Rebels advanced to the final with a 70-54 win over the Riverside junior varsity team. South opened with a 70-37 victory over Hugh Boyd.

It was the second tournament title in as many weeks for the Rebels. South won the tournament at Sir Winston Churchill the week before.

At the Carkner memorial, Byrne Creek finished in seventh place in the girls' division, following a 61-45 win over Hugh Boyd.

Tiffanie Zali of Byrne Creek was named to the all-tournament team.

In boys' division, Burnaby North defeated district rival Burnaby Central to take fourth place overall in the tournament.

Steveston/London won the boys' title 72-58 over North Kamloops.

Dejan Kukolj of North and Bogochen Llica of Central were both named to the boys' all-tournament team.
