It was a usual result for the sagging junior A Burnaby Lakers on an unusual home game night.
The Lakers, still realing from the loss of their starting goaltender on Sunday were no match for the Delta Islanders, falling 16-4 in a rare home game at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Islanders moved into sole possession of top sport in the B.C. Junior Lacrosse League with a record of 93-1, a point better than the Coquitlam Adanacs.
Xander McDonald had another tough outing in the Burnaby net, allowing nine goals on just 22 shots before being yanked midway through the middle frame in favour of intermediate callup Robert Gilliam.
Gilliam posted 26 saves in the second half of the contest.
At the other end of the floor, Will Schwan was called on to make 34 saves while the Islanders rained 64 shots at the Burnaby cage.
Mike Mallory accounted for more than a third of Delta's shots on goal, firing 23 at the Burnaby netminders and scoring on six of them in a nine-point night.
Delta's Logan Schuss also had nine points, including a pair of goals.
Burnaby hosts Port Coquitlam on Sunday.
