The Burnaby Lakers went into a New Jersey Devils-like funk in their mid-week Western Lacrosse Association match against the Langley Thunder.
A six-goal second period by the Thunder proved the big difference in Burnaby's 13-7 loss to last season's Mann Cup finalist at the Langley Events Centre on Wednesday.
Trailing 5-3 after the opening period, the Lakers surrendered six straight goals, including three shorthanded counters.
The loss ended a mini three-game win streak by the Lakers that included a 15-11 win over the New Westminster Salmonbellies less than a week before.
"(Wednesday's) game looked the reverse. - We didn't defend well at all and our power play wasn't moving the ball like we did the other night," said Burnaby head coach Bob Johnston.
Scott Jones tallied his third consecutive multigoal game for the Lakers, leading the squad along with Dane Stevens, both with two goals and an assist.
For Jones, it was his seventh goal and 13th point in his last three games.
Joe Bell started the game for Burnaby but was replaced by backup Devon Winters in the middle frame after Shayne Jackson notched Langley's second of two goals on the shortman coming just five seconds apart.
"We were missing a bit of an edge last night," Johnston added. "We have to play better in front of (Bell)."
Burnaby is back at home tonight (Friday) against the Maple Ridge Burrards at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre. Game time is 7: 45 p.m.
