The Burnaby junior B Lakers got their baptism into tier 1 division with a trio of losses.

Part of the new 10-team B.C. Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League, which is replacing the intermediate A division, Burnaby was in a hard battle with Delta in their most recent game, with the Islanders rallying to eke out a 6-5 win on Monday.

Five different players put goals on the board for the Lakers, with Dryden Valade scoring once and setting up three others. Also scoring were Basil Cooper, Nicholas Dos Santos, Jackson Eggert and Zach Mcminn.

The Lakers were manhandled by Coquitlam 12-1 in their home opener on Sunday, with Valade counting the team’s lone goal, which made it 2-1 five minutes into the contest. The Adanacs went on to score 10 unanswered goals to run away with it.

In the season opener in Victoria, Burnaby fell behind 9-0 before finding their legs in a 17-4 loss.

Marcus Klarich, Thomas Vela, Eggert and Valade netted the Lakers goals.

Burnaby’s next game is Monday in Maple Ridge.
