The Burnaby Lakers moved to .500 in the Western Lacrosse Association with a 6-4 win in overtime over last year's Mann Cup finalist Langley Thunder on Wednesday.

Mike Brascia scored the game-winner unassisted at 7: 22 of OT with his second transition goal of the early season.

Shaun Dhaliwal potted an insurance marker into an empty net in the final seconds of the 10-minute extra time.

Dan Lewis got the win in his first start in goal, turning aside 28 shots at the Langley Events Centre.

At the other end of the floor, former Burnaby junior Brodie MacDonald had a strong night, earning the game's first star with a 47-save performance.

Burnaby stars Matt Quinton and Dane Stevens, with his first of two goals in the game, scored early to get the visitors off to a 2-0 start.

Scott Tinning also tallied to keep the Lakers ahead 3-2 after 20 minutes.

But Burnaby's power play went one-for-11 in the game and failed to take advantage of seven straight Langley penalties from the seventh minute on in the first period, surrendering a pair of shorthanded goals in the process that kept the score close.

"Lewis looked good, our defence looked like we wanted it to look and our transition had 10 or 12 chances. But our power play needs work," said Burnaby head coach Bob Johnston.

"Over two years, the trend we saw was we were a badly outplayed team, but in the last two games we've outshot both teams and that's a real positive," added Johnston.

Burnaby is in Maple Ridge this Sunday for a date with the Burrards. Game time is 6: 45 p.m.
