Local skaters play key roles in BCHL playoffs

Team captain Tyler Morley of Burnaby led the Surrey Eagles to a pair of semifinal wins over the Cowichan Valley Capitals in B.C. Hockey League conference play.

Morley scored a goal in both opening Coastal Conference best-of-seven playoff semifinal games against the Caps, including the game-winner in Surrey's 4-1 at the South Surrey Arena on Saturday.

Morley was also named the first star in the Eagles' 4-3 win over Cowichan in the series opener on Friday.

Younger brother Brandon Morley also scored an empty-net goal in Saturday's win.

Former Burnaby Winter Club product Brayden Jaw also scored for Surrey in the opener.

Brent Fletcher of New Westminster is riding a two-game point streak into the BCHL playoffs with the Merritt Centennials in the Interior Conference semifinals.

Fletcher assisted on Evan Stack's game-winner in a 3-1 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings at the Nicola Valley Arena on Saturday.

The second-year Centennial forward sparked a three-goal Merritt first period with his first goal of the playoffs in a 4-1 win over Prince George on Friday.

The Coquitlam Express fell two games behind the Powell River Kings in the other Coastal Conference semifinal.

The Kings posted wins of 4-2 Friday and 4-1 Saturday to take a two-game lead in the best-of-seven series.

New Westminster's Clinton Atkinson garnered a point in both Coquitlam losses, including a third-period power-play goal in the opening game.

Former Northwest Giants forward Alex Kerfoot scored the only goal for the Express on Saturday.
