B.C.’s best men’s curling teams will descend on Abbotsford this week for the 2017 Belairdirect B.C. Men’s Curling championship, presented by Fountain Tire, at the Abbotsford Curling Club Feb. 8 to 12.
The tournament will showcase the top 12 men’s teams from across the province – including the recently crowned national junior champions from the Royal City Curling Club/Langley – and will decide the B.C. team that will go on to compete at the 2017 Tim Hortons Brier.
“This tournament brings together B.C.’s best men’s curling teams and will provide some of the most exciting curling this province has seen this year,” Curl B.C. CEO Scott Braley said.
Teams representing rinks from Burnaby/New Westminster, Maple Ridge, the Kootenays, Vancouver Island, Kelowna, Vernon, Vancouver, Richmond and Surrey will compete in this provincial championship tournament.
This year’s national junior champions, the Tyler Tardi rink from New West/Langley, features Burnaby’s Sterling Middleton at third, with Cloverdale skip Tyler Tardi, second Jordan Tardi and lead Nicholas Meister.
Also representing the Royal City are Team Bilesky, skipped by New West’s Andrew Bilesky, with third Stephen Kopf, Burnaby’s Daniel Wenzek at second and Cameron Watt at lead, as well as Team Guignard, skipped by Jeff Guignard, third Chris Faa, third Jeff Sargent and lead Nick Kuit.
The Tardi team qualified for the senior men’s provincials by winning the Lower Mainland A event. Team Bilesky earned its ticket with the B event title.
