The Simon Fraser University Men's Ice Hockey program announced a commitment from forward Brenden Silvester to attend SFU and join the team for the 2012/13 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Silvester, who played three seasons in the Western Hockey League for the Seattle Thunderbirds. He is described as a gritty and strong-skating centre with an exceptional work ethic. After putting up 31 points in 159 games, Silvester is excited to take the next step in his hockey career while working towards a degree from SFU.

"SFU in late years has established its presence in the sports world as a competitor," says Silvester. "Being able to be a part of this institution during these years is exciting in itself. I'm excited to start the next chapter of my life and I know SFU is the place to accomplish my goals and make an impact."

The speedy center is also confident he can have a strong on-ice contribution. "For someone who hasn't seen me play, they can expect me to make an impact on every shift. Whether its getting an opportunity in the slot or blocking a shot, the job will get done."

"Brenden is without a doubt going to be an impact player right off the bat and we are expecting big things on and off the ice from him," says SFU head coach Mark Coletta. "His three years of WHL experience will serve him well, being around the professional atmosphere of the WHL. We look for Brenden to bring that to our dressing room. He is also excited about coming to play hockey and continue his studies at SFU and having him aboard is proof that hockey at SFU is on the map."

Silvester is SFU's eighth commitment for the 2012/13 season.
