The Northwest Giants remained in second place in the B.C. major midget hockey league following a two-game sweep over the Kootenay Ice last week.

The Burnaby-based Giants defeated the Ice 4-1 at the Burnaby Winter Club on Nov. 29, before disposing of the Cranbrook club 9-1 in the rematch less than 24 hours later.

Josh Latta had a goal and an assist to lead the Giants, while captain Keegan Jones tallied the game-winner with his 10th of the year to spark a three-goal Giants’ third period.

In the Sunday matchup, Austin McQuay had his biggest game in a Giant uniform, scoring three times and helping out on two others, while Ryan Pouliot had his first multi-goal game of the season counting a pair from defensive partner Shane Kime.

Nash Dabb padded his team-high offensive numbers with a goal and two helpers. Wilson Northey also contributed a goal and an assist.

The wins improved the Giants’ record to 15-5-0, five points behind league-leading Cariboo Cougars and a single point ahead of third-place Okanagan Rockets.

The Giants have a bye this weekend.
