Masters club a medal marvel

The Tri-City Greyhounds masters track and field club had a mind-numbing 2012. The club combined for a total of 415 medals, including 16 world records, last season.

The club combined for a total of 415 medals, including 16 world records, last season.

The impressive medal tally included 266 individual gold medals, 93 silver and 46 bronze in indoor and outdoor events, which included the B.C. masters and Canadian and U.S. championships.

In all, club members also set 33 new Canadian and 48 provincial records. Last year, Christa Bortignon set 19 national records and was named Sport B.C.'s master athlete of the year. The 75-year-old was also voted runner-up as the world masters female athlete of the year.
