The Burnaby Selects boys captured the Metro under-14 league soccer title with a 2-0 win over Coquitlam Metro-Ford on Saturday.

Alan Camacho-Soto, the team's top scorer, opened the scoring with the eventual game-winning goal.

Goalkeeper Aleksandar Kalajdzic recorded his 10th shutout of the season. He finished the regular season with a league-leading eight goals against.

The victory was the second league championship in as many years for the Burnaby team and the closest one yet, edging Surrey CCB Pegasus by a single point.

"It has been a real honour and privilege to coach them and to be associated with such a wonderful group." said Coach Franco Iuele in an email to the team.

The reigning Provincial Cup champions will have the opportunity to defend that title later this year, as the league championship title earned them a qualifier to that tournament.

Next up is Coastal Cup play which begins in April.
