The Northwest Giants remained the sole undefeated team in the B.C. major midget hockey league with a pair of one-goal wins over rival Cariboo Cougars.

The Burnaby-based Giants edged the Prince George club 4-3 on Saturday during a weekend showcase at the Langley Events Centre. The Giants then moved its unbeaten record to six games without a loss with a 6-5 decision on the following Sunday.

Jackson Cressey scored the game-winning goal Saturday.

The Giants never trailed in the contest, taking a first-period lead on Major Kaila's first goal of the season. They led 3-2 heading into the final frame following a goal by Anthony Conti.

On Sunday, defenceman Trevor MacLean tallied the winner on a power play in the final minute of the third period, counting his first two markers of the year.

The Cougars led for most of the game, but MacLean's first of the year from Kaila and New Westminster's Brandon Del Grosso knotted the matchup 5-5 late in a five-goal middle period.

Cressey also counted a pair, bringing his season goal total to five.

Cole Todd had his best outing of the young season with the Giants, assisting on three of Northwest's counters.

The Giants trailed 4-2 early in the middle period, but Eric Margo and Cressey tallied less than two minutes apart midway through the frame to tie the game at fours.

The Okanagan Rockets continue to hold down top spot in the 11-team provincial loop with a 6-1-1 record despite a weekend split against the Valley West Hawks in Langley.

The Giants will face the very same Hawks in a home-and-home matchup this weekend.

The Giants host Valley West at the Burnaby Winter Club on Saturday at 7: 45 p.m.

The return matchup is at the Fleetweed Arena in Surrey on Sunday at 2: 45 p.m.
