North Burnaby Boxing Club's Akbar Qurban won the B.C. lightweight boxing title at Cascades Casino in Langley this Friday.
Qurban scored a first-round knockout over Mat Andreatta of Langley in the championship bout.
The Burnaby boxer caught Andreatta with an overhand right that put the Langley fighter on the canvas for a 10 count.

Ruilin Huang of Burnaby was named the Canadian Colleges' Athletic Association women's badminton player of the year for an unprecedented fourth time.
The Douglas College student won previous player of the year awards in 2009, '10 and '11. Huang is also a fourtime All-Canadian.
