New Westminster Judo Club’s Christine Chow returned from the Canadian Judo championships recently with a heavy weight to bare – in the form of gold.
The 14-year-old Burnaby Mountain Secondary student topped her national under-16, 48-kilogram division by beating four opponents to claim the title.
To get to the gold, she defeated a Saskatchewan green belt opponent, a blue belt from Prince George, and a blue belt from Ontario.
Chow, a green belt, wrapped up her amazing climb by besting a Quebec brown belt – a level above her own.
