No medal for B.C. at baseball nationals

Provincial champion 21-and-under team was hoping for the gold after back-to-back silver medals at Canadians

B.C. had a disappointing finish at the Baseball Canada 21-and-under national championships last week.

The two-time silver medallists were denied a third straight medal at the Regina, Sask. championships following a 12-4 upset loss to provincial runner-up Kamloops on Aug. 15.

The provincial champs, including Burnaby infielders Taylor Lawrence, Tyler Yorko, Mitchell Jackman and catcher Josh Wray, helped B.C. to a 3-2 record.

Jackman led B.C. at the nationals with a .500 batting average, including eight hits and four runs batted in. He also had seven putouts at first base.

Wray batted .417 through the competition and had 23 putouts behind the plate for B.C.

Yorko and Lawrence both had four hits and three RBI at the nationals. Yorko also had nine putouts and 12 assists at the short stop position for B.C.

B.C. also lost 3-1 to eventual finalist Ontario 1.
