Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby will be the youngest player on Canada's world championship national hockey team.
The 19-year-old NHL Edmonton Oilers' rookie of the year hopeful is one of five B.C. players named to the national team.
Nugent-Hopkins is joined by Oilers linemate Jordan Eberle, who scored both goals, including the shootout-winner in Canada's 2-1 exhibition win over Switzerland on Sunday.
Canada opens against Slovakia on Friday. The 16-team tournament continues through to May 15, with the championship final slated for May 20.
To u-18 camp
Burnaby goalie Kimberly Newell is one of 57 players, including nine backstoppers, to be named to Canada's under18 women's strength and conditioning hockey camp in Toronto.
Newell, who played last season for the Kootenay Ice of the B.C. major midget hockey league, was invited to the camp, which is running in conjunction with the national women's u-22 development team camp at the University of Toronto from May 2 to 6.
