Melody Liang of Burnaby and Stephanie Ko won their opening round match over Christina Aicardi and Claudia Rivero of Peru at the Yonex Canada Open badminton championships in Richmond. The former Douglas College twosome defeated the Peruvians 1621, 23-21, 21-16 in Round 1, before losing to No. 4 seed and eventual semifinalists Brigit Michels and Sandra Marinello of Germany.
