The Simon Fraser University women's basketball team added Australia's Ellen Kett to its roster for next season.

Kett comes to the Clan from Niddrie, Victoria, Austrailia - a suburb of Melbourne - where she played point guard for Ruyton Girls School.

"Ellen has had a great deal of success and captained every youth team she has ever been on," said Clan head coach Bruce Langford. "She runs the point with great vision, which will complement our players who want to get out and run. As defensive MVP in her league, she is not afraid to get her nose dirty, which will fit nicely with a core group who was number one defensive team in our league last year."

In 2012, Kett was a member of the Australian under-19 basketball team after previously playing with the under-17 squad.

"I'm very excited to be attending SFU this fall," said Kett. "I had a number of opportunities both at Division I and II schools, but chose Simon Fraser because of its excellent academic reputation, as well as the reputation of the team."

At the 2012 Australian high school basketball championship, Kett was named the tournament's most valuable player, and to the all-Australian team.

She captained her Victorian state team at the under-16, -18 and -20 levels, winning the Australian championship all three times.

In 2012, Kett also played club basketball with the Dandenong Rangers, contributing to the teams development league title with an 18-4 record, earning top defensive player honours along the way.

"I'm a traditional left-handed point guard and I put the team first. I am a tenacious defender who applies solid ball pressure in the full court," continued Kett.

Kett plans to study business at Simon Fraser.

"SFU gives me the opportunity to attend a great business school and play at a high standard of basketball at the same time. In my first year, I just want to work hard to achieve the team's goals," added Kett.
