Burnaby South junior Ahmad Nizamani took home a bronze medal in the long jump from the B.C. high school track and field championships.

The Grade 10 Rebel, the under-16 Canadian national champion in the field event, leaped 6.48 metres to earn his team's only points of the 46th annual provincial meet.

"It feels good, but it would have been nicer to get gold," said Nizamani, who has a personal best of 6.60m in the event. "It wasn't my best day, but it's nothing to worry about. I got a long season ahead of me."

Konrad Piaseczny of Holy Cross won the event with a leap of 6.80m.

Byrne Creek Secondary's Jamal Reta placed 12th in the boys' 3,000m timed final on Friday. Later in the day, Reta failed to qualify for the 1,500m following a 14th place finish in heats.

On Saturday, Santiago Ward of Burnaby Central placed 13th in the boys' 2,000m steeplechase.
