Nigel Press, a 36-year old Canadian Red Cross worker in Burnaby, won the Rocky Mountain 1,200kilometre timed bike race, finishing far ahead of the 112-rider field in Kamloops on Wednesday.
The B.C. Randonneur rider weathered heavy rains for the first half of the ride, but remained in the saddle for nearly the entire distance, finishing the ultra ride in a time of 52 hours and 52 minutes, nearly 10 hours ahead of the second-place finishers. Only 58 riders had finished by Thursday's press time.
