Burnaby Minor Baseball Association's peewee A Red Sox took home the gold medal following the Vancouver Minor Baseball President's Cup tournament held at Nanaimo Park from May 23 to 26.
In the championship final, Brad Bodnar broke it open in the bottom of the second inning, clubbing a two-run dinger deep to left centre field to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead. The Sox went on to a 17-7 win over the Vancouver Athletics.
Earlier in the tournament, Sox ace Jason Merkens struck out eight batters in the final three innings of a 9-8 victory over the Cloverdale Cardinals.
