The Royals currently share second place with Columbia Bible College. Vancouver Island University holds down top spot with a 9-1 record.

Douglas opened with a three-set sweep last Friday behind a 24-point performance, including 15 kills, from fifth-year right-side hitter Jeff Taylor.

Behind a return to the court of team captain Brendan Patterson off injury, the Royals looked sharp, compiling an earned 37 kills, 13 blocks and seven aces of their total 75 points scored.

On the Saturday night, the Royals gave away a poor opening set but took the next three and the match 25-20, 25-11 and 25-17.

Taylor again led the way with 15 kills, while freshman Drew Ruby added 14 kills, one block and three aces.

Robson and Mark Vanderwal had 10 and nine kills, respectively.

"Having four Royals in double figures is outstanding and a first this season," said Douglas head coach Brad Hudson.

Both Vanderwal and Ruby came off the bench after not playing in Friday's match.

Taylor, a Burnaby North Secondary grad, had a standout weekend, registering a combined total of 43 points, including 30 kills. He is currently in seventh place the Canadian Colleges' association in kills and second overall in the PacWest. Taylor also sits second in total offensive stats.
