Spring is certainly in the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club's step.
The premier men's side racked up its sixth consecutive league win following a 42-19 upset win over the visiting first-place James Bay Athletic Club at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex-East on Saturday.
Burnaby's former Canada under-20 national team back row forward Admir Cejvanovic scored two tries from his No. 8 position to lead the Lakers, securing third place in the division with a 7-3 record.
The win was the first for Burnaby Lake over James Bay in over a decade, including a two-point loss in last year's semifinal.
"I've been playing against James Bay since I was a junior and I've never beaten them," said Burnaby's 27-yearold scrum half Rainel de Guzman in a B.C. Rugby press release. "We just played the system that (head coach) Kris de Scossa has been working and we wore them down. We were playing patient rugby, the same as we have all season and it opens things up for us in the second half."
Burnaby Lake led the Bays 13-9 at half time on a try by Cejvanovic and on two penalties and a conversion by James Reekie.
The hosts took over in the second half, scoring the first of their five scores soon after the restart from winger Giusseppe Luadisio.
Peter Gillespie, Micha Govorchin, Cejvanovic, with his second of the game into the corner, and Reekie, with one of his own, also added second-half scores.
James Bay managed to remain in first place with an 8-3 record despite the loss.
Capilano increased its record to 8-3, but remained in second place on bonus points, following an 1813 win over Castaway Wanderers.
In Division I, Burnaby Lake also dominated James Bay, winning 63-16 at home.
The Burnaby Lake women were also dominant, thumping Capilano 83-0 in the premiership.
