Simon Fraser University senior Lindsey Butterworth ran a qualifying standard in the 800 metres for the World Student Games.
Butterworth ran the fastest time in the 800m in NCAA Division II for a second time this season, clocking a personal-best time of 2:04.11 in a heat at the Payton Jordan Invitational track and field meet in Palo Alto, California last week.
The FISU standard for the women’s 800m is 2:05.
“Lindsay went out with a purpose and was determined to get the FISU standard,” said Clan head coach Britt Townsend in a SFU press release. “After 400 metres I knew she was on track because she was running faster than she ever had.”
Butterworth’s time was the second fastest in conference history, trailing SFU alumnu Helen Crofts’ 2013 record time of 2:02.10.
