The Burnaby Lakers were outgunned by the Victoria Shamrocks at the Q Centre last Friday.
Still smarting from back-to-back losses to the Nanaimo Timbermen it its first two Western Lacrosse Association regular season games, Victoria got solid outings from its top players in an 11-5 victory over the visiting senior A Lakers.
The loss was the first of the year for the Lakers, who eked out a one-goal win over Maple Ridge in their season opener.
Burnaby got the jump on its hosts, taking a 2-0 lead on goals by Dane Stevens and Shaun Dhaliwal before the ’Rocks ended the opening period on a 4-0 run and began the middle frame with three more in a row, including a pair by Scott Ranger less than 40 seconds apart that proved to be the game winners.
Tyler Digby got one back before the second period ended, but Victoria outscored the Lakers 4-2 in the final frame to win going away.
Stevens and Dhaliwal both potted a pair of goals for Burnaby in the contest. Scott Jones and Digby also registered two-point games for the Lakers.
Victoria’s Jesse King led all scorers with six points, including two goals, Cory Conway also registered a pair of counters.
Matt Roik got the win in goal from the Shamrocks, with 33 saves. Joe Bell stopped 27 of 38 shots on goal in the Burnaby cage.
Burnaby will entertain the Langley Thunder on the team’s new home game night on Tuesday, June 2 at 7:45 p.m.
