The Burnaby-based Wings Restaurants and Pubs has signed on as the title sponsors for the Serevi Vancouver International rugby sevens tournament.
The Serevi Vancouver International Sevens rugby tournament will be held in Burnaby's Swangard Stadium July 22 and 23.
The tournament is the largest rugby 7s tournament in Canada and the second largest in North America.
"On behalf of the entire Wings organization we'd like to say how happy we are to be the presenting sponsor for the 2012 International rugby 7s," said a statement
from WINGS headquarters. "As a company headquartered in Burnaby, with locations throughout the Lower Mainland, the chance to be part of this rapidly growing sport and help in
promoting and exposing the speed, skill and excitement of rugby 7s to local communities is an opportunity we simply couldn't pass over. ... We fully expect it will prove to be an exceptional event, cementing current fans' support and
winning over many more to the future Olympic event."
Rugby 7s has been accepted by the International Olympic Committee into the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janerio and is fast becoming a spectator favourite as witnessed by the recent USA 7s in Las Vegas, where 38,000 spectators took in the final day.
Douglas Okero, president of the Serevi Vancouver International 7s said "we are honoured to have Wings Restaurants and Pubs as the official title sponsor of this
entertaining international rugby 7s event that is attracting national and international interest from teams, media, corporate sponsors and fans around the world."
Tickets to the Serevi Vancouver International Rugby 7s tournament will go on sale in the near future.
