The Simon Fraser University men's basketball team announced its 2014-15 schedule that includes preseason games against two NCAA Division I opponents and the return of the Clan's all-time winningest coach to the West Gym.
"I am very excited about this year's challenging schedule," said Clan head coach James Blake. "We have a very young team and I am looking forward to getting on the road with them and seeing how they respond to our Division I pre-season schedule versus UC Irvine that has a 7-6 future NBA draft pick and the University of Idaho.
"I am also looking forward to welcoming Thompson Rivers University and SFU’s all-time winningest coach Scott Clark back to Burnaby Mountain."
The Clan will kick off their preseason schedule against the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack on Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. before hosting their alumni on Oct. 25.
SFU will then be off to play Idaho on the road on Oct. 31 and UC Irvine on Nov. 8.
Simon Fraser then return home to play a trio of games against Northwest Indian College on Nov. 14 and 15 before hosting Canadian college rival, Douglas College on Nov. 18.
The next four games will take the Clan south of the border as SFU begins the Div. II portion of their non-conference schedule.
"We will hit the road again to start our regional NCAA Division II games in northern California and that will really test our new players early in the season. The GNAC has a lot of turnover in player personnel on every team, and the league fight for playoff spots will be wide open this season. We are counting on our recruiting class and red-shirt freshmen to complement a talented returning senior back court with Sango Niang and Justin Cole," finished Blake.
The Clan will play four non-conference games against Div. II teams, starting with the San Francisco State Gators on Nov. 21 and the Dominican Penguins on Nov. 22.
SFU will return to California to compete in the Notre Dame De Namur Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 28 and 29, playing against the Holy Names Hawks on Nov. 28 and the host Argonauts on Nov. 29.
SFU's annual Red Night game will take place at the conference opener as the Clan host their cross-border rivals, the Western Washington Vikings in the West Gym on Dec. 6.
After their final non-conference game against the Capilano Blues on Dec. 16, the Clan will break for Christmas before returning to action in Alaska on Jan. 1 and 3.
The Clan will close its regular season schedule the same way they began it, against Western Washington on Feb. 26.
