Incoming Simon Fraser University freshman Kevin Vigna placed in a tie for 38th place at the Canadian junior boys' golf championship at Timberwolf Golf Club in Sudbury, Ont. last week.

Vigna, a St. Thomas More Collegiate grad, shot a 10-over-par 298 to finish 22 shots behind the runaway champion Kevin Kwon of Pitt Meadows.

Kwon, 18, led wire to wire, finishing 12 shots under par with a 276 total after four rounds for a fiveshot victory over Matthew Scobie of Ajax, Ont.

Kwon took the lead on opening day, blistering the course with an eightunder-par 64. He finished the final two rounds with three-under 69s.

The victory was Kwon's second-ever Canadian junior title. He won his first national junior title in 2011, when he coupled that win with a Canadian juvenile championship.

Burnaby's Kevin Li and Alan Tolusso missed the cut.

At the Canadian junior girls' championships in Pickering, Ont., Maddie Szeryk of Texas

also won easily, carding a five-under-par 283 at the Cherry Downs Golf and Country Club on Aug. 2. Surrey's Taylor Kim was the B.C.'s top golfer, placing third following a final round one-under 71, 13 shots back of the leader.
