SFU grads win gold at Commonwealth Games

Danielle Lappage and Arjun Gill both won their respective weight classes at the Scotland Games

Two Simon Fraser University Clan wrestlers won Commonwealth Games gold on Thursday.

Clan alumni Danielle Lappage and Arjun Gill both won their respective weight classes at the Glasgow Games in Scotland.
Both wrestlers went undefeated through three matches to capture gold.
Lappage won all three of her Thursday matches as the former Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association champion defeated Geetika Jakhar of India by points in the women’s 63-kilogram final.

She opened with a win over Blessing Oborududu of Nigeria by decision. In her second match of the day, Lappage faced Chloe Spiteri of England and won convincingly advance to the final.
Gill started his Games with a victory on Wednesday with a win over Hugh McCloskey of Northern Ireland, before defeating Sam Belkin of New Zealand to punch his ticket to the finals.
In the final, Gill met Satywart Kadian of India and won the decision by points to earn gold at 97kg.
The two athletes contributed gold medals to a dominant performance by the Canadian wrestling team at the Games that included six gold medals, two silver and three bronze.
