SFU opens outdoor track season with wins

Stuart Ellenwood notched the Clan's first win of the meet, clocking a winning time of 1: 57 in the men's 800 metres.

Jade Richardson also won a field event, placing first in the women's shot put with a heave of 11.20 metres.

Mercedes Rhode won the women's long jump with a leap of 5.26m, while in the high jump, Kim Rutherford placed second at 1.50m. Selina Byer was also second in the javelin with a throw of 39.14m.

Sarah Sawatsky was runner-up in the women's 400m hurdles, finishing in a time of 1: 03.08.

Five Clan women finished in the top eight in the 1,500m metric mile, with freshman Kansas Mackenzie and Peggy Noel leading the way, placing second and third, respectively.

Robyn Broomfield placed runner-up in the women's triple jump with a leap of 10.52m.

In the men's field events, Dkay Ivor was second with a height of 1.90m in the high jump, while Cody Lavoie was third in the long jump with a distance of 6.02m.

Next Sunday, the Clan will host the annual Achilles Cup dual meet with UBC at Terry Fox Field on April 7. [email protected]
