SFU swimmer named to All-American scholar team

Simon Fraser University Clan swimmer Nicole Cossey was named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American team.

Cossey earned a spot on the squad with a 3.86 grade point average.

The junior had the highest GPA among all upper classmen at SFU, earning her the department's top scholar athlete award in March. She also earned the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's Faculty Athletic Representative Award for having a GPA over 3.85.

The academic honours come after a strong season for Cossey in the pool.

In March, Cossey was one of six members of the Clan to compete at the NCAA championship meet in Geneva, Ohio, where she twice earned All-American status.

On the first day of the event, Cossey finished sixth overall in the 50-yard freestyle race to earn All-American status, before placing second in the 100-yds. free on the final day of the competition to become an All-American for the second time in the meet.

For her athletic achievements, Cossey was also named Simon Fraser's female Athlete of the Year.

Cossey will be back with the Clan for her senior season in 2014-15.
