Simon Fraser University moved past Western Washington University in NCAA Division II women's basketball rankings following their convincing win over the Vikings last weekend.

Simon Fraser University moved past Western Washington University in NCAA Division II women's basketball rankings following their convincing win over the Vikings last weekend.

The Clan moved up to eighth spot in the USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll rankings this week after last Saturday's 74-59 win over WWU at home.

The Clan, who remain in second place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference surpassed their cross-border competitors in the national rankings and are the highest-ranked team in the West Region, while the Vikings dropped to ninth.

In their game Saturday, Feb. 9, the Clan sent the Vikings home with their first loss of the conference season, winning by a convincing 15 points.

This game marked the Clan's first conference victory over WWU since joining the GNAC in 2010.

Clan guard Marie-Line Petit was perfect from the floor in the game, scoring 13 points in just 15 minutes of play.

The win also earned the Clan GNAC Team of the Week honours for the second time this season.

The SFU women's basketball team is on the road this week, traveling to Nampa, Idaho to take on the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders on Thursday night before visiting the Central Washington Wildcats in Ellensburg, Washington on Saturday.
