The Simon Fraser University women's rugby team had its unbeaten record stopped at the worst possible time.
The league-leading Clan women were defeated 29-12 by the Seattle Mudhens in the Anna Schnell Cup final at John Oliver Park on Saturday.
"We knewe SFU would play a wide, expansive gaqme and it would be a real test for us," said Mudhens captain Ashley Kmiecik in a B.C. Rugby press release. "We had to win the one-on-one matchups and in the second half we dominated at the point of contact."
Tied 12-12 at the interval and played in a heavy downpour, the Mudhens ran in three tries in the second half to win the premier women's cup final.
In earlier league play, SFU easily defeated the Seattle club, downing the Mudhens 71-17 in October.
In the plate final, Bayside beat Seattle 12-0, while Capilano defeated Burnaby Lake 32-10 in the bowl final for fifth and sixth place.
