Brock Lamb led Simon Fraser University men’s wrestling team with a win at 165 pounds at the Boxer Open, hosted by Pacific Oregon University.
Lamb advanced through the first round with a bye before winning two consecutive matches to win his weight class, with a win by fall in the final.
Josh Kim was the Clan’s next best finisher, with a runner-up performance at 184 lbs. The junior won his first two matches before falling in the final to Kolbjorn Skaflestad from Southwest Oregon.
Three other SFU wrestlers Reid Watkins, Ryan Yewchin and Sukkhan Chahal placed third in their respective weight classes.
Watkins advanced through one round before falling in the quarter-finals, but would redeem himself with two victories on the consolation side.
Yewchin had a similar pattern, dropping his first match before winning two in a row to earn third place.
Also wrestling for the Clan were Matt Dignan, Dillon Hume, Josh Punzo of Burnaby and Sean Molle.
The SFU men’s wrestlers are back in action Jan. 31 in San Francisco.
