Silver and gold for SFU Clan cross country teams

The Simon Fraser University Clan men's and women's cross country teams earned top placings at the Sonoma State University Invitational meet in Santa Rosa, California on Sept. 22, with the women winning gold and the men winning silver.

Lindsey Butterworth was the Clan's top performer and the top performer on the women's side, winning the six-kilometre race in a time of 22: 05.1.

The Clan had a one-two finish and six of the top seven finish-ers in the 6K, as Sarah Sawatzky finished only five seconds behind Butterworth for second.

Kirsten Allen, Michaela Kane, Kansas McKenzie and Peggy Noel placed fourth through seventh respectively.

Emma Chadsey and Tanya Humeniuk also raced for the Clan, placing 12th and 15th respectively.

On the men's side, Timo Hoberg led Clan athletes with an eighth-place finish in the eightkilometre race with a time of 27: 21.6 minutes.

Just behind Hoberg was Adam Reid, who finished 10th. Travis Vugteveen, Lawrence Viola and Cameron Proceviat finished in 19th, 20th and 21st places respectively in the 59-competitor field.

The Clan cross country teams are back in action on Oct. 6 at the Western Washington Tune-Up in Bellingham, Washington.
