Softball British Columbia inducted Simon Fraser University softball coach Mike Renney into its hall of fame on Saturday.
Renney has been at the helm of the SFU softball program since its inception in 1995.
Under his watch, the program has become one of the top collegiate programs in North America, with the team producing many players to Team Canada, including 11 Olympians while winning four National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics titles.
"I've been fortunate to have the opportunity to work with numerous quality teams," said Renney in a school press release. "I think my career could be epitomized by being in the right place at the right time."
Renney himself represented Canada as a coach with Team Canada, working with the national program from 1996 to 2004 - a stint that included trips to the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics, along with four world championships.
He started his coaching career in Aldergrove and led several provincial championship teams. Renney also led the B.C. provincial boys' team at the Canada Games in Kamloops in 1993.
"The people and the athletes have been the most rewarding part. I've been very fortunate to have success, travel the world and compete at the pinnacle of sports, and it's the great people I've worked with that makes it very rewarding," said Renney.
The induction ceremony took place at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in conjunction with the 2012 Softball B.C. annual general meeting's awards banquet.
