The Burnaby Lakers played cat-and-mouse with the Maple Ridge Burrards before escaping with a single point in Western Lacrosse Association play.

Deflated following its 14-10 loss to the Thunder in Langley midweek, Burnaby had to fight back from a four-goal deficit to tie the winless Burrards 9-9 after a period of overtime at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Friday.

On Sunday, the Lakers got off to a sizzling 6-1 start in Nanaimo, but needed a pair of third-period goals from Mike Brascia to force OT before holding on to an 11-11 draw with the Timbermen.

The draws lifted Burnaby's record to 3-2-2, two points behind co-leaders Victoria and Langley.

At home, rookie Casey Jackson's first of a career senior A hat trick gave the Lakers an early 2-0 lead, Burnaby then squandered that lead, allowing Maple Ridge six straight goals over two periods.

Team scoring leader Dane Stevens stopped the

bleeding with his first of three goals coming at 17: 59 of the second period.

Stevens started the third period, sparking a five-goal Burnaby reply with a goal off a harmless-looking shot off the faceoff. He then tied the game at 6-6 with his 12th goal of the year.

Jackson then put the Lakers into the lead with a heads-up goal on a rebound off the back boards.

Shaun Dhaliwal increased the lead with a shortman goal in transition.

But that lead was also short lived as Riley Loewen of Burnaby and Jarrett Davis both scored late to knot the game for Maple Ridge, despite a huge save from Lakers' starting keeper Joe Bell off Randy Daly in the 15th minute. Bell stopped 42 shots in goal.

In overtime, Brandon Bertoia gave the Burrards a 9-8 lead on a power-play goal midway through the 10-minute extra-time period.

But with Bell on the bench for a sixth attacker, Jackson counted his hat-trick goal with less than 30 seconds on the clock.

Bell held his own again in Nanaimo, stopping 40 Timbermen shots, while Stevens with two goals and three assists, and Jones with five helpers, led the attack for the visitors. Dhaliwal and Scott Tinning also collected a pair of goals apiece.

Burnaby plays host to the undefeated Victoria Shamrocks at the Copeland centre on Friday. Game time is 7: 45 p.m.
