Burnaby's Megan Ellis was an honourable mention for Portland State University following the NCAA Division I Big Sky Conference women's volleyball championships. The No. 1-seeded Portland State were upset in the semifinals by Northern Colorado in straight sets.
BIG TIME STOPS
Princeton freshman goalie Kimberley Newell stopped a game-high 13 shots in the third period to backstop a 2-1 upset over No. 8-ranked Ohio State in NCAA Division I women's hockey on Nov. 24. It was Newell's fourth win this season for the Tigers.
FIRST PRO GOAL
Carlo Finucci tallied his first-ever pro goal for the Evansville IceMen in East Coast Hockey League action. Finucci's game-opening marker sparked the IceMen to a 4-2 win over Reading on Nov. 24. The former B.C. Hockey League scoring champion was recently picked up by Evansville in a trade with Reading.
PLAYER OF WEEK
Joey LaLeggia of Burnaby was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association defensive player of the week.
