Michael Valiante qualified a fast Spirit of Daytona team Corvette for the Grand-Am Detroit 200 last Saturday.

Off-road motorcycle racer Spencer Knowles sat in eighth place after the opening two races at the Motocross national series in Nanaimo.

Knowles, 19, finished runner-up in the latter race to garner 22 national series points, after a did-not-finish in the opening race.

Keanna Li and Jordan Lashar were named Grade 12 girls' and boys' athletes of the year, respectively, at the Burnaby South Secondary School awards day.

Pavneet Brar and Melvin Arciaga took the girls' and boys' Grade 11 athlete of the year awards.

KNIGHT TO CLAN

St. Thomas More's Andrew Morris committed to play varsity men's basketball at Simon Fraser University next season.

The 6-5 Burnaby product averaged 20 points per game, 7.4 rebounds and 7.2 assists and was named the most valuable player at the school's annual Chancellor tournament last season.

GUARD TO SFU

New Westminster Hyacks guard Ariana Sider will be joining the SFU women's hoop squad in September.

The Lower Mainland all-tournament star averaged 17 points last season. She also garnered seven assists and six rebounds per game.

PBLERS DRAFTED

Vancouver Cannons grad Rowan Wick was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the ninth round of the Major League draft. Former Coquitlam Reds pitcher David Otterman was taken in the seventh round by Milwaukee.
