Sean Norbury’s second goal of the game earned the Grandview Steelers a 3-3 draw with the rival Richmond Sockeyes in Pacific Junior B Hockey League play on Sunday.
In a game where Grandview did most of the chasing, netminder Cole MacInnes did a strong job of keeping his team in the hunt.
Richmond took an early lead when Spencer Berry buried one just five minutes into the contest. Nearly eight minutes into the second period, Norbury put the Steelers on the board with a powerplay effort, assisted by Nico Bruno and Jeffrey Wong.
The Sockeyes quickly reclaimed the lead when Nicholas Wicks made it 2-1 midway through the period.
But before the second frame ended, defenceman Cole MacEwen counted his first goal of the season to deadlock the score again.
While Brett Gelz restored the Richmond lead 3:20 into the third, it fell upon Norbury, with 3:30 left in the third, to even it all up and force overtime. It was Norbury’s eighth of the season.
Neither team was able to connect for the winner in the 10-minute extra session, with MacInnes finishing with 32 saves. Richmond’s Kurt Russell stopped 27 shots.
Grandview’s next game isn’t until Jan. 1 in Richmond.
