The St. Thomas More Knights won the Lower Mainland independent girls' basketball title following a 53-50 victory over York House.

Playing without 6-0 forward Meghan Ho, STM got double-digit efforts from senior guard Domunique Booker, Grade 11 guard Leilani Carney and junior point guard Zion Corrales-Nelson to earn the No. 1 independent AA berth at home on Thursday.

Corrales-Nelson led the Knights with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Carney and Booker chipped in with 11 points and 11 boards, respectively.

Player of the game Nikko Sahagun had a strong championship final, putting up 13 points, four rebounds, four assists, five steals and one blocked shot.

Madie Bouvier also helped out with 10 rebounds.

STM advanced to the playoff final following a 54-39 win over Little Flower Academy on Feb. 12.

Corrales-Nelson and Carney, with three long-range treys, both had matching team-high 14 points, while Bouvier knocked down 10 points.

Little Flower's Jesscia Hansen led all scorers with 18 points, including two first-quarter three-pointers.

STM will enter the Mainlands as the No. 2 seed behind host Windsor.

The week-long championships began on Monday.

The Knights played the winner between No. 7 Bodwell and No. 10 Cambie on Tuesday (after NOW deadlines).

The final berth placement matchups will be played on Friday at Windsor, beginning at 3:45 p.m. The first-place final is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
