Mary Parsons posted the low girls’ score to help St. Thomas More Collegiate finish in ninth place at the B.C. high school AA golf championships at Predator Ridge Golf Resort in Vernon last week.
Parsons finished with a one-over-par 71 on the final day, carding 147 to go along with her opening day 76 at the two-day tournament June 2 and 3.
The STM junior finished at seven-over-par just two shots shy of co-leader Tristan Mandur of Shawnigan Lake, who beat Hatzic’s Jake Scarrow in a playoff.
Mennonite Educational Institute won the aggregate team title with a 58-over-par 618 total. Defending AA champ Kwalikum was runner-up four shots back. West Vancouver’s Collingwood School was third at 64-over in one of the tightest team finishes in recent years.
STM finished with a two-round total of 667.
Grade 9 golfer Jack Dickie was the best of the Knight boys, finishing tied for 17th place with a 79-76 – 155. Rene Cheng had rounds of 83 and 82 for a two-day total of 165.
Senior Nic Morreti and Tyson Ono also contributed to the team total for STM.
“We’re looking for a good result next year,” said STM coach Joe Thierman.
STM has all but owned the AA banner in recent years, winning five provincial championships, while also earning a third-place finish and a runner-up placing at last year’s tournament at Pheasant Glen in Qualicum Beach.
