The Burnaby Girls Strikers will be going to the provincials despite a semifinal loss in Coastal Cup playdowns a week earlier.

The under-18 girls' Strikers fought through illness and injury to post a 3-2 comeback win in overtime over the Surrey Guildford United 94 Selects in the back-door qualifier on Sunday.

Sidney Roy, who was earlier voted league MVP by the Metro Selects coaches, tied the game at 1-1.

Wanja Mwariga gave Burnaby the lead, but Surrey forced OT with a game-tying goal.

In the second overtime period, Mwariga was taken down in the box by two Guildford defenders, but the ball still found its way over the goal line for the game-winning tally.

The Burnaby victory in the back-door matchup put the fourth-place league finisher into the B.C. Soccer A cup provincial championships in Kamloops July 5 to 8.

Coastal Cup finals will be taking place in Richmond this weekend.
