Mariya Chekanovych of Burnaby became the first Simon Fraser University swimmer to record a NCAA A time following a 1: 02.09 clocking in the women's 100-yard breaststroke final at the Washington Husky invitational swim meet on Dec. 1.
With the sub 1: 03.00 time, Chekanovych qualified for the NCAA Division II championships in March.
Chekanovych also raced to a second-place finish in the women's 200-yd. breaststroke on the Sunday against stiff competition from 12 university teams, including second-ranked Grand Canyon University, defending Canadian Interuniversity Sports national champion University of Calgary, as well as several NCAA university Div. I programs.
Chekanovych picked up another medal in the medley relay, helping the Clan team, including Kristine Lawson, Alex Schofield and Nicole Cossey, to third.
Cossey opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the women's 50-yd. freestyle.
Julian Monks posted a number of top-five times, placing fourth in the men's 100-yd. breast, and fifth in the 400yd. individual medley. Monks also shared a fifth-place finish with the SFU 200-yd. medley relay.
Diitar Ivanov also came fourth in the men's 200-yd. backstroke, while Carman Nam placed fourth in the women's 1,650-yd free.
