Teen wins Ft. Langley half marathon

St. Thomas More junior Andrew Coby Juni tops adult field at first-of-the-season long distance race

St. Thomas More junior runner Andrew Coby Juni ran away from the field at the annual Fort Langley half marathon on Sunday.

The 16-year-old Grade 10 student placed first overall at the early season long-distance event, finishing in a winning time of 1:19.37.2, more than a minute ahead of 49-year-old runner-up Cam McIntosh of Delta.

Juni easily topped his 19-and-under age group, finishing more than 16 minutes ahead of divisional runner-up Andrew Palmer of Langley.

Philip Finlayson of Burnaby placed second in the 40-and-over category and fifth overall.

The winter half marathon starts and finishes in B.C.'s birth town Fort Langley.

The half-marathon route starts from the Fort Langley's National Historic Site of Canada, through the rural streets of Fort Langley, past majestic views of mountains and farmlands, where it follows the historic Hudson's Bay Co. Telegraph Trail, before winding its way through the streets of Walnut Grove and finishing on a strong downhill that heads to the most prestigious start/finish line location in the province - inside the gates of the Fort Langley's national historic site.
